The Vector Institute is rapidly assembling partners in government and industry to support an applied research effort in response to COVID-19 and future pandemics. COVID-19 has changed the way we live and work and has greatly impacted our economy, healthcare system, education, and etc. These changes resulted in a ‘shift in our data’.

Consider the trend-line for any business KPI and what happened to it from February/March onward. Server calls, web traffic, air traffic, vehicle traffic, sales, app downloads, hospital visits, etc.. if these data were used to train models prior to COVID-19, the models need to be reviewed.

This Endless Summer School (ESS) session will cover ‘Dataset Shift’ i.e. what happens when the distribution of training data no longer matches the distribution of test and emerging data, as well as, discuss adaptive methods and examples in research and business.

Speakers Include:

Shay Ben David, Professor, David Cheriton School of Computer Science, University of Waterloo, Faculty Member, Vector Institute

Taylor Killian, Graduate Researcher in ML4H, University of Toronto, Vector Institute

Shingai Manjengwa, Acting Lead Professional Development, Vector Institute
