Hongyang Zhang is a tenure-track assistant professor at the University of Waterloo and a faculty member at the Vector Institute for AI. He received his Ph.D. from the Machine Learning Department at Carnegie Mellon University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago. His work has been recognized with the Google Research Scholar Award, Amazon Research Award, AAAI New Faculty Highlights, and championship in competitions such as the CVPR 2021 Security AI Challenger and NeurIPS 2018 Adversarial Vision Challenge. He regularly serves as an area chair for major conferences including NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, AISTATS, AAAI, and ALT, and as an action editor for DMLR.
