Hongyang Zhang is a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor at the University of Waterloo, David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science, member of the AI Institute and Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute, and Faculty Affiliate of the Vector Institute. He is interested in the problems where beautiful theory and practical methodology meet, which broadly include theories and applications of machine learning and algorithms with an emphasis on robustness, security, and trustworthiness.

Hongyang completed his PhD degree in 2019 at the Machine Learning Department, at Carnegie Mellon University. Before joining Waterloo, he was a Postdoc fellow at Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago (TTIC). Hongyang graduated from Peking University in 2015. He had long-term visiting experiences at Simons Institute and IPAM.
