Pritam Sarkar

Vector Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow

Pritam Sarkar is a Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow at the Vector Institute and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of British Columbia, working with Leonid Sigal. He completed his PhD in 2025 at Queen’s University under the supervision of Ali Etemad. During his doctoral studies, Pritam interned at Google and RBC Borealis, and his work was recognized at top-tier conferences such as NeurIPS, ICLR, and AAAI, where he received multiple Oral and Spotlight distinctions. He received the First Prize in the Research Excellence Award (PhD), IEEE Kingston Section, in 2023 for his contributions to self-supervised learning. His research focuses on multimodal AI across video, image, audio, and language, with the goal of advancing multimodal understanding, generation, and reasoning. He is broadly interested in developing safe and generalizable multimodal intelligence through algorithms that learn effectively with minimal human supervision.
