Anna Panchenko received her B.S. (1989) and PhD (1993) from the Biophysics Department of Moscow State University in Russia, where she studied protein dynamics by Mossbauer spectroscopy. She came to the USA as an NSF visiting fellow and subsequently worked as a post-doctoral fellow in the School of Chemical Science of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While at UIUC, she studied the kinetics of ligand binding to myoglobin and protein folding.

In September 1997 Anna joined NCBI of the National Institutes of Health, USA, as an IRTA Research Fellow, later as a Staff Scientist and then as a Lead Scientist. Her team worked on the development of computational algorithms for the analysis of protein sequence and structure, protein-protein interactions, identifying cancer driver events and nucleosome dynamics. In July 2019 she was recruited to the Queen’s University School of Medicine where currently she leads her team through uncharted waters in computational biology and biophysics.

In her spare time, Anna likes to surf the wind, write stories and capture favourite moments with her camera.
