Babak Taati, PhD PEng, is a Senior Scientist at KITE Research Institute, the research arm of the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute – University Health Network. He is also an Associate Professor (status only) in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto and holds cross-appointments in the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (BME) and in the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute (RSI). His research applies computer vision technologies to solve real-world healthcare challenges in rehabilitation and the management of chronic conditions. The main focus of his work is to move away from the laboratory and contrived situations towards the development of computer vision and health monitoring systems that work reliably in natural settings, such as in the home or in long-term care.
