Dr. Colin Bellinger leads the Machine Intelligence and Robot Learning (MIRL) group at the University of Ottawa. His research focuses on machine learning and reinforcement learning (RL) with applications in robotics, data-driven scientific discovery, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. His research develops sample-efficient, safe, and generalizable learning algorithms for autonomous agents operating in complex, real-world environments. Core application domains include robotic manipulation and navigation, materials discovery, and decision-making in health and safety contexts. A central theme is bridging the gap between simulation and reality through model-based RL, grounded perception, learning from limited data and uncertainty-aware decision-making.
