Deval Pandya leads Vector Institute’s AI Engineering team in developing and deploying tools and platforms that transform breakthrough research into real-world implementations. With his team, Deval enables industry and health partners to adopt advanced AI solutions, accelerating the practical application of Vector’s innovative research.
Passionate about the role of digital technologies in accelerating the energy transition and promoting equity, Deval serves as an expert on the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe’s Task Force for Digitalization in Energy, advising on the potential of AI to modernize global energy systems. He serves as a Director on the Technical Steering Committee of Moja Global, a Linux Foundation climate-tech project developing open-source software for greenhouse gas accounting. At Creative Destruction Lab, he mentors startups as an Investigator in the Climate and Energy stream.
Deval also serves on the Safe and Secure AI Advisory Group for the Government of Canada and the Research Council of the Canadian AI Safety Institute (CAISI) at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR). Recently, he was appointed to the board of directors of the Samara Centre for Democracy. During the September 2025 United Nations General Assembly, he represented Vector’s technical expertise at AI Safety Connect, speaking on “The Role of AI Safety Institutes” alongside senior leaders from the OECD, European Commission, Singapore, and China.
Before Vector, Deval headed Shell’s Data Science team, driving innovation across Asset Management and New Energies. As co-founder of Shell’s Future Energy Lions network, he championed energy AI innovation across the organization. Throughout his career, Deval has led the development of scalable machine learning applications in the domains of nature-based solutions, predictive maintenance, e-mobility, microgrid optimizations, and hydrogen value chains.
Deval’s AI innovation leadership has garnered global recognition. He was recognized as a Best Executive in Technology by The Globe and Mail’s Report on Business magazine (2025), honoured as “Top Tech Leader of the Year – Excellence in AI” (2024) by the Canada India Tech Council, selected among the Top 100 Global AI Innovators (2022), and named a Future Energy Leader by the World Energy Council (2019).
Deval holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s in Aerospace Engineering from The University of Texas at Arlington.
