The veteran IT leader, whose past postings have included the Perimeter Institute and Butterfield & Robinson, will be tasked with driving the computing technology strategy – including high-performance computing infrastructure and cybersecurity plans – for the Vector Institute.

The Vector Institute today announced Ben Davies as its new CIO.

Davies hails from the Perimeter Institute where he held the position of CIO, with more than 20 years of extensive experience in IT strategic planning and execution, operations management, and technology consulting with organizations in North America, Europe, and Asia.

“I am pleased to announce that Ben Davies has joined Vector as our new CIO. Ben is a proven leader with a strong track record of driving modernization of research computing infrastructure and implementing cybersecurity strategies for advanced analytics environments,” stated Roxana Sultan, Chief Data Officer and VP Health at Vector Institute. “As Vector continues to grow its research community and the breadth of its activities, the need for greater capacity and leadership for our computing investments will be critical to our success as we accelerate the growth of novel AI techniques and models in Canada.”

Prior to the Perimeter Institute, Ben served as the CEO and Co-Founder of Catharsis Managed IT Ltd. and also held leadership positions at Butterfield & Robinson and AMDOCS. His career has included the implementation of technology to enable business growth, introduction and management of cybersecurity and risk management frameworks, and management of government and vendor contracts.

Ben stated, “I am very excited to join the Vector Institute. Our team will be focused on infrastructure enhancements to support the AI researchers in Vector’s community by providing better access to state-of-the-art compute infrastructure and a critical sandbox for Canadian companies looking to compete globally. We will also be working closely with Vector’s ecosystem partners including universities across the country as well as Amii, Mila, and CIFAR.”
